Eco house kit arrives on a lorry from Europe by B. Isachsen

By Sophie Isachsen, Business Manager at Sky House Sussex, working with owner Amy Burgess:

As a dyed in the wool lover of old, characterful (leaky, creaky) brick-built Victorian and Edwardian houses, I was sceptical when my Scandinavian husband suggested we build a brand new timber framed eco house. It took a huge leap of faith and more imagination than I had could easily summon up to understand his vision for a properly insulated, low energy house using solar power, rainwater harvesting and a biodisk system for sewage. From my position of ignorance and fear of the unknown, I was concerned about living in a big white, featureless modern box. I was overlooking the immense benefits of living in an eco house: lower energy bills, a healthy, allergen free environment inside, not to mention the warmth and quiet provided by triple glazed windows. Daringly I took the green leap and never looked back. I said yes to the green principles without – if I’m honest – fully understanding how they’d translate into the look and feel of my own home. But I love it! Have you ever considered taking the green leap, however large or small…greening something in your life? It’s worth it. Hope you’ll join us for the ride: click on ‘Follow this blog’ on our About page.
